How to set up a
facebook business page

A business Facebook account not only looks different from a personal account, it also contains information such as hours of operation, about, location, reviews, and more (while a personal account includes details about the individual, such as relationship status, schools attended, places visited, etc.). Additionally, when you are on a business account, you will notice that you can either ‘Like’ or ‘Follow’ the page, whereas with a personal account, you can add the person as a friend.

A business Facebook account is FREE. It’s almost like a free website for you to showcase your business, and with the right SEO and keywords, a business account will also pop up in Google searches. This should be a place where clients and potential clients can learn about you and your services. On a business account, clients can leave reviews, ask questions, and you can manage appointments while building loyalty around your business[1].

Key features of a business Facebook page:
  • Post/Schedule Posts to both Facebook and Instagram
  • You can manage comments and DMs for both FB and Instagram on one platform (Meta Business Page)
  • Create Ads
  • You can track trends and get insights on your target audience

How to set up a business Facebook page:
  1. From your personal account, click See More under your profile picture on the left-hand side (this may look a bit different for everyone. Essentially, you want to click on Pages).

  2. Click Create new Page.

  3. Fill in the required fields on the left side (if you need help with a description, remember you can reach out to ChatGPT and ask it to help create SEO-friendly copy). Short bio length is 150 characters as of September 2021.

  4. Add a profile photo and a cover photo. Choose photos that represent who you are and what you do (try, as much as possible, to shy away from generic photos you purchase). Many businesses will have their logo as their profile picture. (See below for image sizes.)

  5. Click “Create Page” at the bottom of the page

Facebook Profile & Cover Photo Dimensions (If you use Canva, these dimensions are already in there!):

Your Page’s profile picture:
  • Displays at 176×176 pixels on your Page on computers, 196×196 pixels on smartphones and 36×36 pixels on most feature phones.
  • Is cropped to a circle.

Your Page’s cover photo:
  • Left aligns with a full bleed and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Must be at least 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall.
  • Loads fastest as an sRGB JPG file that’s 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kilobytes.

For profile pictures and cover photos with your logo or text, you may get a better result by using a PNG file.

The left side of your cover photo will be partially covered by your profile picture and may be cropped and resized to fit different screens.

To preview how your Page’s cover photo and profile picture may appear together, please see the example below.[3]
